Der BDSW vertritt als Wirtschafts- und Arbeitgeberverband die Interessen der Sicherheitswirtschaft gegenüber Politik und Behörden sowie Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft. Die Sicherheitswirtschaft leistet mit circa 267.000 Mitarbeitern einen unverzichtbaren Beitrag für die Innere Sicherheit Deutschlands. Der Umsatz betrug nach ersten Schätzungen in 2019 ca. 9,25 Milliarden Euro.
